National Moments for Smart Meters
Smart Energy GB
Smart Energy GB is responsible for raising awareness of the national rollout of smart meters, which will put an end to estimated bills and ultimately help Britain better manage its carbon footprint. It is one of the biggest technology upgrade projects in recent history, so we looked at how Great Britain has marked momentous occasions in the past and applied that approach to the switch from analogue to smart meters. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performed a requiem on instruments made from old gas and electricity meters to mark the passing of analogue meters, Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy penned an Ode to Meters to signal the changeover, and artist Sir Peter Blake created a unique piece of art to mark the arrival of smart meters. One in five people recalled the campaign and 33% went on to request a smart meter.
